SINGAPORE: She was supposed to check her exam results on an online portal on Friday. But before the student, who is studying for her RMIT University degree through SIM could do that, an email from RMIT stopped her short.
Her results had been held up — along with those of over 2,000 students here — as some RMIT faculty were involved in a strike by the National Tertiary Education Union in Victoria, Australia. Therefore, exam results have been withheld over a dispute on pay and working conditions.
But the delay looks to be a short one, as the university and the union will likely sign a memorandum of understanding on Saturday which will lift the industrial bans in place, including the withholding of the exam results.
An RMIT spokesperson told TODAY that it will be "business as usual" when the agreement is signed — the university will resume the release of results immediately. About five of the university’s modules — mainly in business — were affected.
RMIT students in Australia are not affected, as they have yet to sit for their exams, while graduating students whose results are withheld would also not have been affected as they can apply to the union for exemptions.
An SIM spokesperson said about one—third of the 6,000 students who took RMIT exams in April and May were affected, and RMIT had informed the university that it had been working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. This is the first time in SIM’s 22—year partnership with RMIT where a strike has affected students here.
The 20—year—old business management student received her results for three of the four exams she took. "I was surprised, but I think everything is fine because it sounded like someone is handling it. We were told that our re—enrolment next semester would not be affected," she said.
Other RMIT partners in Singapore told TODAY their students have not been affected by the strike. The Singapore Institute of Commerce — which offers RMIT programmes in engineering — was informed of the situation but were told it would not affect them, said its spokesman.
The strike was also supported by other universities in the state, like Monash and Deakin, but institutions offering their programmes here said they were not aware of it and had not been informed of any impact on students here.

launched Safari, into the EOL.
heart pumping so fast, so hard.
anxiety suffocating me.
a nervous wreck i was.
good night's sleep, i didn't get.
a million prayers, i said.
finally three out of four results,
the last one, TBA.
i did well for the three, i reckon.
if you think i'm boasting, screw you.
i very well deserve it.
unfortunately, the one that got me worried this whole time,
is the last one thats to be released.
why oh why.

it's been a pretty good week.
first week since the holidays started,
that i actually hung out with my friends.
met sch mates on wed for lunch at Seoul Garden,
i don't remember us talking much!
i think we were all busy cooking and eating, right?!
sucks that it was a short outing,
we have to do something before school starts!
met bhavie for dinner in town,
did a lil' catching up,
more to come!
lucky bitch is gonna cruise round Europe!
i'm damn jealous can!
rahh talking about school,
results out in less than a week.
oh gosh, it's seriously freaking me out!

what is beauty?
wheee!
spent two days with boyfriend, celebrating his 28th Birthday :)
before that, i was treated to some pretty indulgent shopping!
dang it's been so long since i did some crazy damage to my pocket,
and my boo, thank you for pampering me. :)
i hope you felt pampered on your birthday !
anyways, dresses from Uni Qlo, Topshop, Zara and Forever 21!
i can't seem to get enough of dresses.
my wardrobe looks good now =))
i happened to turn on tivo the other day,
and there it was on the Hallmark channel, The Biggest Loser.
heard of the show, but never got a chance to catch it.
googled it, found access to the most recent, Season 7.
watching this reality show, has changed my whole perception about... life... and my yoyo dieting.
i hate to admit it,
but as much as i may come across as being confident,
and happy about being a plus size girl..
i absolutely hate it!
i've gone from a UK12 to UK16, since secondary school.
my annual new year resolution?
you guessed it, to lose weight.
but i have not, once, got down to do anything about it!
while watching The Biggest Loser,
i saw myself in so many of the contestants,
i saw the pain, the guilt that was in them.
you know whenever i'm dressed up,
i'd think i look good,
but when i get looks from people,
i can't help but wonder, is it cos i look good, or cos i look disgustingly fat and totally gross?

as much you tell me i'm beautiful.
i know i'm not.
i am determined !
lose 10kilos by 29 June 09.
i can do this,
common people, tell me i can.
i've got my new running shoes(thanks boo),
i will do this!

since i can't go on my vacay,

i felt sick after lunch, could it be that i binged over lunch?

i am officially done with semester four.
tests: check.
assignments: check.
exams: check.
results: pending.
this semester, is probably the toughest yet.
or is it not?
four modules, out of three were examinable.
i studied hard, perhaps not hard enough?
every night i'd be fixated on my neatly written stake of notes,
madly attempting to squeeze chucks into my head.
i don't know if i'm feeling relieved that exams are over.
i still feel ... uneasy.
God, i leave my worries to you, and trust you'd bless me with what i deserve.
i do not want to anticipate what my results might be.
but i can't help but thinking bout my OT paper.
i really hope i did enough to get a pass.
it's sad that i might be missing out on distinctions this semester,
but really, i'll be contented to just pass.
this semester has been tough on us all.
images keep flashing in my head,
imagining myself logging onto the portal on June 4th.
i hope i'd be able to present Mom with a good present, she turns 48 come June 6th :)
damn i have to stop brooding over exams.
boyfriend is turning 28 soon.
felt like just yesterday when we started dating :)
he was 24, I was 18.
it's been a long ride.
long and pleasant one.
i can't help it but i admit.
i'm pretty temperamental.
i don't know if it's my desperate attempt for boyfriend's attention,
when we're not physically together,
or that i just wanna test his patience.
either way,
i feel blessed that his tolerance level is like, wayyy up there.
gong gong & po po have decided to go on their annual trip to the states.
i was part of the plan,
till the Swine came along.
mom has all reasons to get paranoid.
of all times, why now?
i hope my grandfolks will be safe though.
next time i guess.
i'm turning 22 soon.
oh my word.
